Young British Muslims are far more likely to hold radical, anti-Western views than their parents or grandparents, a new survey has claimed.
The study found that 40 per cent of Muslims between the ages of 16 and 24 would prefer to live in Britain under sharia law, a legal system based on the teachings of the Koran, compared to just 17 per cent among over-55s.
Why do you think young British Muslims are more prone to fundamentalism than previous generations? Are multicultural policies to blame? Has too much emphasis been placed on minority rights and not enough on integration?
Or is the explanation more straightforward: Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan has provoked the increased hostility towards the West and its values?
Is the situation in Britain unique? Or does it reflect increasing polarisation between Muslim communities and the West as a whole?
Are these young people likely to mellow as they grow older or will they grow still more radical?

An excellent comment in response to the article:
Multiculturalism will go down in Britain's political history as one of it's most hurtful, dividing, elitist policies of all time. A policy where every ethnic minority is catered for with the exception of the host does not bind a nation - it divides it.
The ultimate irony is that it was created by people who quite rightly had an abhorrence of aparteid yet
managed to emulate its division and injustices.
Unless the current political parties address the deep dis-satisfaction that prevails throughout the UK, we will
unfortunately see the rise of the extreme right wing (that ARE inherently racist) and so we will be in a lose lose situation.
We need a leader who will restore the nation state as the object of our common loyalties, a country where we can be proud, respectful and protective of our heritage based on centuries of secular law. Where religion is a private matter, a concern of both family and society but never of the state. Contrary to this the majority of Muslims see all law, all traits of their identity and ultimately their loyalty as issuing solely from their religious beliefs. For this reason they can never recognize an obligation to the state in which they live or the love of country on which it this is founded.
Unless sweeping changes are introduced to combat this very real threat to our historical democratic values Britain and Europe will continue to sink deeper and deeper into an unimaginable hell. Time is running out...
